ABOUT THE ARCHITECT
Ar. Gianne Borlongan, RMP, graduated from the University of Santo Tomas in 2015. He holds two professional licenses: Architect and Plumbing Engineer.
He began his career as a Design Architect at one of the top architectural firms in the Philippines, Visionary Architecture. Later, he co-founded Vidro Builders with his contractor partner, where he currently serves as the Principal Architect. In this role, he oversees the design and construction of various residential and commercial projects. Additionally, he ventured into video editing, graphic arts, and architectural design visualization through Vigion Studios, before launching Arcborders Architectural Design. The firm focuses on architectural-related projects with the tagline "Beyond the Borders of Architecture."
Throughout his high school and college years, Ar. Borlongan won multiple awards in arts and design competitions at the University of Santo Tomas College of Architecture. His accolades include First Place in the Division School’s Press Conference for Filipino Cartoon Editorial during high school. In college, he earned First Honorable Mention for the UST-Mindanao Student Center design, First Place in the UST-Arki Eco Parol competition, and First Place for his design of a resilient medical civic facility for Yolanda victims in the Community Transition Medical Civic Facility competition.
After college, Ar. Borlongan continued to participate in architectural competitions. In 2019, he was one of the Top 20 semi-finalists in the Human Rights Violations Memorial Museum Architectural Design Competition, alongside three colleagues. In 2020, he became the only solo participant in the professional category of the SORA SEED (Search for Emerging Exceptional Design) competition for the Tala Civic Center, ultimately placing as one of the Top 4 finalists.
In addition to his architectural practice, Ar. Borlongan embraced digital learning during the pandemic. He completed the HarvardX course, The Architectural Imagination, to further enhance his expertise. He also served the United Architects of the Philippines Graduate Auxiliary from 2015 to 2017, first as the Commission on Internal Affairs and later as District Director of Area B2.
During the pandemic, Ar. Borlongan played a significant role in supporting frontline health workers. He was one of the pioneers of the Lifebox Initiative, a non-governmental organization that developed a comprehensive design for the Aerosol Box to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19. His beta versions of the box were distributed to healthcare workers, providing them with essential protection.
In addition to his architectural achievements, Ar. Borlongan gained attention on social media, particularly on TikTok, where he was featured in Garage Magazine’s article, “Learn Design Techniques with Ar. Gianne Borlongan’s TikTok.” He was also recently highlighted in PRESELLO BYO 24 with the article, "How This Architect Went Beyond the Borders of Architecture," focusing on his work with the Zenscape Villa. Notably, in 2020, he ranked 6th in the Educational TikTok Category, earning a spot in TikTok's Top 100 with over 190k followers, sharing architectural content and design tips. One of the most memorable experience he had is becoming one of the Speakers for the biggest gathering of Filipino Architects in History at the 49th UAP National Convention in April 2024.
